I was a hostess with Aden Airways from February 1961 until February 1963 and have a vague memory of this photo being taken.

I can't recall why, or how many shots were taken, but I think it was for a promotion and that more were taken on the steps.

There were no adjustable steps available and the steps used were too low, which is why I was holding onto the sides of the doorway.

I joined Aden Airways on 1st February 1964 and left in February 1966. My brother, Michael Crouch, was a Political Officer who was stationed up-country in Mukhalla and other places. I flew on the Dakotas which delivered fresh meat, vegetables and flowers etc picked up from trips to Nairobi.

On leaving Aden for England in 1966 the political situation was getting very bad. The two Viscounts were in Rhodesia being serviced and we had two Central African Airways planes on loan which I think got blown up on the runway at Khormaksar Airport.

Sabrina is today (2008) married to Bill Peat and they live in England.

Ann Berryman

Ann Berryman
(now Ann Atkinson)

Employed as a booking clerk at the Crescent Hotel Annexe booking office, Ann was occasionally called to fill in at the last moment as a flight attendant.

"My first such flight stays in my memory. From the office I went straight to Khormaksar  presumably collecting a passport and toothbrush en route and was hustled onto a DC3 bound for Assab and Addis Ababa. The flight bag was thrust at me, the doors shut and with no training I had to make do as best I could."            read more

Jennifer (Jenny) Venning
(now Jenny Drummond Harris)

I was a stewardess with Aden Airways from 1961-1964. My Father Cyril Venning was the Chief Electrical Engineer with Aden Airways at the same time. He had a very near miss when one of our Viscounts was blown up on the tarmac. He should have been on board at the time running tests, and was walking out to the aircraft when he realised he had forgotten something, Luckily he turned back, and as he reached the airport building, the explosion happened.
