2006 Meeting
The most recent gathering of club
members was for lunch at the Royal Over-Seas League, St.
James’s, London on Saturday 23rd September, 2006.
The event kicked off with members
gathering for a pre-lunch drink. The company then sat
down to a three course meal, followed by coffee. After
lunch the Aden Dinner Club Chairman, Geoffrey Roberts,
addressed the members about Club business. Everyone
then settled back to listen to two members who had
volunteered to give presentations.

Hinchcliffe |
Firstly
Peter Hinchcliffe, an ex Political Officer spoke
about the book - Without Glory in Arabia: The British
Retreat from Arabia - which he had recently published
with John Ducker and Maria Holt. The book tells the
story of the final few years of British rule in Aden and
the neighbouring Eastern and Western Aden
Protectorates, and the final British withdrawal from the
Colony.
Peter also spoke about his time in Aden,
which he illustrated with a slide show taken from his
personal collection. Without Glory

Next George Raine spoke about his
time in Aden as an Army doctor on a short service
commission. George also showed slides to illustrate his
talk, and he spoke with humour and sensitivity about his
work, his patients, the Yemeni people and life ’up
country’ from Aden.
